I’m using an Apple wireless keyboard, the one with 2 AA batteries, which seems to be 3rd generation according to Wikipedia. Recently I tried pairing it with a new device, which was honestly kind of difficult. So in the end I needed to search on how to reset the device or rather put it into pairing mode (as there is no dedicated pairing button as on other devices).
When you know it, it is quite easy, but when you don’t you might need to look it up. Therefore I’m writing it down here, so I can look it up the next time I need to know it đ Thanks to Dave Meehan, I found this originally in his blog, which I am quoting here:
- Switch off the keyboard by holding down the power button for at least 3 seconds
- Click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar
- Click on âSet Up Bluetooth Deviceâ or âOpen Bluetooth Preferencesâ
- Turn on the keyboard by holding down the power button, BUT DO NOT LET GO OF THE POWER BUTTON. It must be kept held down through the entire process.
- The Setup Assistant will find the keyboard, so click the name of the keyboard, and then click on âContinueâ. Make sure you are still holding the power button down.
- You will be prompted for the Pairing Code. You can now release the power button, type the pairing code on the keyboard and then press return. There will be a slight delay whilst the pairing completes (a few seconds)
- The keyboard will now be Paired, and should work as expected (if it produces wrong characters for keypresses you may have the wrong language setting on your Mac, see below).
- So just to clarify, the trick is to continually HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON.
